Are there any genetic effects?
No genetic effects have been confirmed in humans.
Genetic effects have been reported in animal studies, but in a two-generation study of 7,700 Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb survivors, there was no significant difference in chromosomal aberration rates between the control and test groups. Furthermore, survey results from regions with natural radiation levels ten times higher than Japan, show no increase in chromosomal aberrations in newborns. Therefore, scientists in the field of radiobiology believe no genetic effects from radiation will be detected in humans.
