Radiation Protection

Basics of Radiation Protection (Categories and Dose Limits)

Response categorized according to public exposure, occupational exposure, and medical exposure

Radiation protection refers to the protection of people and the environment from radiation exposure or contamination by radioactive substances, thereby decreasing the effects of radiation as low as reasonably achievable.
In terms of management, groups are categorized according to public exposure, occupational exposure, and medical exposure. Dose limits are prescribed by law for public exposure and occupational exposure.

The table shows the dose limits for radiation workers and the public. Dose limits are also prescribed for radiation workers during emergencies. Radiation exposure must be managed so as not to exceed these values.
